My friend and I decided to write an inmate as something different to do during quarantine. I never thought I would gain a true friendship from an inmate, but now I have two! I look forward to receiving letters and hearing about life from a different perspective. I enjoy receiving letters and cards from my pen-pal friends who I have a lot more in common with than I ever imagined. I appreciate this outlet and the new friendships I’ve made.

My brother has been incarcerated for most of my life. He has a few penpals that help break-up his time, so I wanted to do the same for someone else. I’ve been friends with my penpal for seven years, she is now one of my closest friends. She has helped me understand a lot of what my brother has gone through in prison.
