Chester Iodence

Dependable, polite, kind, loyal, caring, insightful, hardworking, honest and approachable are all words used to describe me in a survey from three corrections officers, including my employment supervisor, along with four productive adults in custody. All people who watch me in action everyday as I learn to become a better person.

This person I’ve become is not the person who came to prison over six years ago. I wasted two years bumping my head multiple times thinking I knew how to live a good lifestyle. When the fog lifted, I began to notice the behavior of the people that were in their second, third, and even fourth term in prison. Setting healthy boundaries, making the right choice of response to situations in everyday life here in prison is great practice to sharpen my life skills. I have 108 roommates to practice communication with on a daily basis. This is my first time in prison, and I am determined to make it my last and return to being a productive member of society. I’m trying to make positive connections with people, make new friends, and reconnect with my family that I know I have disappointed. I need to grow in the right direction. When in prison, everything and everyone outside grows without you there. I want to feel like I am a part of the world outside. I would enjoy pictures, letters, and stories about events or world news.
